Christian Scholar’s Review recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI) tools (e.g., ChatGPT) and large language models (LLMs) are now commonly used in higher education scholarship (for simplicity, we simply refer to AI to include both). Below, please find our policies regarding the use of such models in any CSR publication. All authors of journal articles, book reviews, blog posts, etc., must abide by these policies.
- We do not allow AI to be listed as authors, since they cannot take moral responsibility for the scholarship. We expect authors to take full responsibility for the content of their manuscript.
- All scholarship submitted to CSR must be the author’s/authors’ own and not violate their profession’s and institution’s plagiarism policies and/or standards for research integrity.
- AI tools that assist with spelling, grammar, or references do not need to be reported by the author.
- Any use of AI for analysis of data must be specified in the journal article by citing the AI tool used and the way it was used in the methodology (e.g., tools for analyzing qualitative interviews such as NVivo or Dedoose).
- AI generation of entire drafts, paragraphs, or any substantive content is not allowed. We reserve the right to reject manuscripts where there is overwhelming evidence of the use of AI (e.g., Chat GPT) for primary authorship of sections of a scholarly paper (versus analysis of data, basic spelling and grammar analysis, etc.). We reserve the right to reject manuscripts that use AI to produce draft text or paragraphs, or return them to the listed author for human authorship
- We also prohibit the use of AI for use in the peer review of manuscripts. Any such use will result in our reporting the violator to their institution. For confidentiality reasons, peer reviewers should not upload any author’s papers for analysis by AI. All peer reviewers are expected to refrain from using AI to review papers.
- We do not accept English AI-generated English translations of other work unless the author can demonstrate to the editor that no other professionally translated work exists. If available, professionally translated work should be used for quotations and citations
Since AI technological innovation is advancing rapidly, this policy will be updated as new developments occur.
